Rossini’s The Barber of Seville is one of opera’s great gems. This beautifully staged production features Irish and international soloists, with full orchestra and chorus. It is a comic masterpiece with a sparkling score – a must for opera lovers!
Set in 18 Century Seville, Gioachino Rossini’s greatest masterpiece is brought to vivid life by Lyric Opera. When the handsome Count Almaviva falls hopelessly in love with the beautiful Rosina, he solicits Figaro, the town’s wily barber, to help win her favour and to make a fool of her ridiculous guardian, Dr. Bartolo. It is a fairy tale of twists and turns and mistaken identities, where young love triumphs - all wrapped up in Rossini’s unmistakable and masterful music.
Director Vivian Coates creates this effervescent production, featuring some of the most exceptional talents in international opera. Figaro is sung by exciting Greek baritone GEORGIOS IATROU. Stunning English mezzo soprano GRACE DURHAM joins us from the SemperOper, Dresden to sing Rosina. And American super tenor RANDALL BILLS, who is blazing a trail through Europe, sings the Count of Almaviv – all supported by The Lyric Opera Orchestra and chorus conducted by TIMOTHY BURKE.
