Oxford University Press seek candidates for the position of Editorial Assistant, Music.

The successful candidate will assist the Editor-in-Chief responsible for music books program in developing their list and managing the larger program, in addition to administrative duties related to management of the general humanities group within the Academic Division. Serve as liaison to authors, prospective authors, and in-house departments throughout the book publishing process.

Job Duties:
– Assist in managing projects from initial submission through to contract: contact and coordinate outside reviewers of material; coordinate responses to review from authors; advise authors on various process-related queries; assist in preparing proposals for Editorial Board; prepare contracts for approved proposals; process signed contracts.
– Prepare accepted manuscripts for transmittal and launch; act as liaison with the author and production department to keep books on schedule.
– Sibelius or Finale skills occasionally put to use on musical examples, adjusting examples to meet OUP formatting requirements (this does not mean creating all musical examples, only fixing poorly formatted ones).
– Perform general office duties; handle correspondence; maintain files and submissions; process rejection letters, check requests, and other routine forms; produce various standard reports.
– Serve as liaison with authors, advisers, U.K. and U.S. Delegates, and general academic community.
– Coordinate with other departments—production, marketing, royalties, and customer service as required.

Job Requirements:
– Bachelor’s degree required.
– Ability to adapt to the current shifts in the industry on a regular basis.
– Excellent computer skills necessary, as is the ability to move through significant amounts of work with efficiency, accuracy, and good cheer.
– High level of organization and self-management is essential.
– Interest in and knowledge of music is required, including the ability to read music.
– Familiarity with Sibelius and/or Finale notation programs required – these skills can be developed further in the job.
– Some publishing and/or office experience is also needed.
– Experience with website building/maintenance is useful, but not required.
