Donegal fiddler Megan McGinley to feature on TG4 Series, 'Sruth'

Sunday, 28 February 2021, 9.30pm

Sruth is a new four-part series being broadcast on TG4 and BBC ALBA in February & March, in which eight young traditional musicians from Ireland and Scotland get the chance to show their prodigious talents while also being given the opportunity to play with some of traditional music’s more established figures, including Julie Fowlis, Bríd Harper, Phil Cunningham, Niall Vallely, and many others. Megan McGinely is one of 8 young musicians profiled, and in this Sunday's episode she will play solo tunes as well as joining legendary Scottish accordionist Phil Cunningham for some sets. Megan McGinley is from Gaoth Dobhair in the Donegal Gaeltacht. Growing up she was surrounded with songs and music from her area, her great-grandad, Joe Jack being a well known fiddle player of the area and her Grandmother and her siblings are also singers. She attends the University of Limerick and has just finished her second year studying Irish Music there. Last year she was Ulster champion in senior fiddle and was a finalist in the All Ireland Fleadh. She is active performing at festivals and sessions around Ireland and has teaching experience in her local community.

Sruth is a joint production for TG4 and BBC ALBA by Táin Media Ireland and Beezr Studios Scotland, part-funded by the Irish Language Broadcast Fund (ILBF)
