Gavin Bryars at 80
The Barbican Centre is set to host an evening dedicated to celebrating the 80th birthday of the composer Gavin Bryarson Tuesday 19 December 2023 at 19:30.
The evening features the Gavin Bryars Ensemble, led by conductor David Wordsworth, a long-time collaborator of Bryars. The program includes 'Ramble on Cortona', 'Duets from Doctor Ox’s Experiment', 'Incipit Vita Nova', 'After Handel’s Vesper', and the widely acclaimed 'Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet'. This latter piece is noted for its hypnotic loop of a homeless man's singing, which has evolved over 50 years, ensuring a unique experience at each performance.
The concert boasts a line-up of distinguished musicians including soprano Sarah Gabriel, countertenor David James, and harpsichordist Mahan Esfahani.
