Flight – An Opera By Jonathan Dove

Flight – An Opera By Jonathan Dove

Tuesday, 12 September 2023, 8.00pm

An overnight success when first performed, Flight is loosely based on the real-life story of an Iranian refugee stranded at Charles de Gaulle airport, Paris for 18 years and his interaction with a group of storm-grounded travellers. The opera unfolds around the different characters who find themselves delayed in the terminal and their interaction with the refugee.

With an ensemble cast of 10 singers, the opera’s reflections on love and identity are presented with winning humour. Though composed 25 years ago, Flight continues to have a compelling relevance today.

Flight, with a vibrant young cast, will be directed by Stephen Medcalf and conducted by Wyn Davies. The production is designed by Maree Kearns and lighting by Kevin Smith. OCI are delighted to be collaborating with the Irish Chamber Orchestra on this project.

“…a popular new comic opera… Dove’s music flies, the opera is fun, and people are going to love it.” – The Evening Standard
