Pavel Haas Quartet @ West Cork Chamber Music Festival 2022
For their second concert Pavel Haas Quartet present an all-Czech programme. The St Wenceslas Chorale is an old Czech anthem dating from the 12th Century where the saint is implored to intercede for the nation. Several composers have called upon its moving and well-known music. Martinů once wrote: It is hard for me to express the happiness I feel when I start composing chamber music – the delight of leading the four voices. The Seventh Quartet is his final one, written in USA, where he, like so many, fled as the Nazis occupied France.
Programme
Suk: String Quartet No.2 ‘Meditation on the Saint Wencelas Chorale’
