Konnakol - Spoken percussion of South India

Offering a lively introduction to the captivating art of South Indian vocal percussion, this short course covers the basics of konnakol, Carnatic rhythmic theory, and the cyclical concept of thala. With plenty of exercises to practise during these sessions and beyond, participants will learn to pronounce and recite konnakol compositions and have fun as part of a konnakol "choir."

The course will be led by South Indian rhythm artist, Prathap Ramachandra, with composer and SOAS doctoral researcher, Helen Anahita Wilson.
