Film Artist in Residence at UCC in 2024

Friday, 13 October 2023, 5.00pm

The Arts Council in collaboration with University College Cork (UCC) is inviting applications from experienced film artists for the position of Film Artist in Residence for 2024. The role, based in UCC’s School of Film, Music and Theatre, offers film artists an opportunity to develop their practice within a university setting and allows students to interact with an established artist during their academic course.

The residency will span the entire calendar year of 2024. From January to June, the appointed Film Artist will engage with students and staff, with the engagement programme being jointly designed with UCC faculty. During this period, engagement is limited to four hours per week, and there’s no core curriculum delivery obligation. From July to December, the artist can focus solely on their own practice.

The remuneration for this residency is €30,000, divided between the Arts Council (€20,000) and UCC (€10,000). UCC will provide a dedicated space and administrative support. Payment will be made in two tranches by the Arts Council, with a concluding report required from the artist.

Eligible applicants must reside in the Republic of Ireland, possess professional film-making experience, and have at least one credit as a director or writer/director of a feature film or creative documentary. The Arts Council and UCC emphasise their commitment to equality and welcome diverse applications. Submissions should include a proposal, artist’s statement, and detailed CV. Applications should be emailed to filmartist [at] ucc.ie by 5.00 pm on 13th October 2023.
