Head of Artistic Planning
The Hallé is seeking a Head of Artistic Planning to coordinate, plan and sell the work of the orchestra and its associated ensembles. Working closely with the Music Director, Sir Mark Elder, and other senior members of the artistic and administration team, this is an important opportunity for someone with artistic knowledge, flair, commercial acumen and drive.
Main duties:
– Together with the Music Director, Choral Director, Chief Executive, Education and Ensembles Directors and Concerts Director to plan and co-ordinate the programme of work for the Orchestra and Choir
– To research and develop artistic projects to be undertaken by the Hallé
– Within a framework agreed with the Chief Executive to take responsibility for the engagement of visiting artists; liaising with them or their representatives on concert-related matters including programmes, rehearsals (in collaboration with the Concerts Director) and fees
– To take contractual responsibility for associate artists where appropriate
– To take budgetary responsibility for the concert related costs incurred by the Hallé which relate to artist and programme selection, specifically artists’ fees, PRS payment and the Hallé Choir
– To take responsibility for the following aspects of the schedule: repertoire, artists, pattern of concerts in the Bridgewater Hall, out of town and Manchester engagements
– To seek engagements for the Orchestra in close collaboration with the Chief Executive and Concerts Director and to take budgetary responsibility for the income earned from them
– To liaise with and actively assist the Hallé’s Communication and Development Departments in their support of the Hallé’s artistic objectives
– To assist the Chief Executive in seeking and setting up of overseas touring.
