Wagner Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Overture WWV 96
Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 4 in G major, Op. 58
Brahms Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 68

Join the RTÉ Concert Orchestra for an evening of Beethoven, Brahms and Wagner, featuring internationally renowned pianist John O’Conor and conducted by Gavin Maloney.

Following an exquisite performance of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the RTÉ CO in 2023, John O’Conor performs Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4. The bold, contemplative concerto allows for a deep, weaving interconnection between orchestra and soloist, where expressive tension is met with joyous resolution. Beethoven’s compositions, especially his bold and dramatic symphonies, marked a thematic and technical break from tradition, reshaping the course of classical music.

Widely recognised as one of the great Beethoven interpreters of our time, O’Conor’s recordings of the complete Beethoven Piano Sonatas led CD Review to proclaim that he “by now should be recognised as the world’s premier Beethoven interpreter” and his recent recordings of the complete Piano Concertos with the London Symphony Orchestra have also been greeted with acclaim.

Also featured in the programme are Wagner’s majestic overture from Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and Brahms’ Symphony No. 1, often regarded as Brahms’ answer to Beethoven’s legacy.

The RTÉ CO and John O’Conor combine forces in a programme that brings together monumental works of classical grandeur.

Presented by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.
