BBC Radio 3 Carol Competition 2023
BBC Radio 3 invites amateur composers to participate in its Carol Competition for 2023.
Entrants are tasked with creating an original tune for festive lyrics written by Poet Laureate Simon Armitage. Open to all, including beginners and experienced songwriters, the competition embraces entries in various musical styles such as classical, gospel, jazz, folk, and pop. The objective is to compose a carol suitable for various singing groups.
Celebrating its tenth year, the competition, typically for those aged 16 and above, has introduced a junior category for participants aged 11–15. The winners, one from each age group, will be selected by Radio 3 listeners in December and broadcasted on Radio 3 during Christmas.
Entries open on 11 September and close at 11.59pm on 1 November 2023. A panel of musical experts will shortlist entries for the public vote.
