Exploring the dark side of global commodities like sugar, the play asks the question: if your wealth is built on exploitation, can it really be used to build a better world?

By examining the tensions between the local and the global, as well as the personal and the political, this powerful new production written by Elizabeth Kuti.

Elizabeth Kuti’s The Sugar Wife opens on the Abbey Theatre’s main stage from 13th June until 20th July in this new version directed by Annabelle Comyn - and asks urgent questions about money, marriage, and morality.

The superb cast of five includes:

· Recent IFTA winner of the ‘Screen Ireland Rising Star Award’, Siobhán Cullen [Obituary (2023); The Dry (2022); and new Netflix thriller series, Bodkin (2024)];
· Laurence Olivier Award-winning actor Chris Walley [The Young Offenders; and new Netflix series Bodkin (2024)];
· Peter Gaynor [Vikings (2013); 13 Steps Down (2012); and Bloom (2003)];
· and rising stars Síofra Ní Eilí and Tierra Porter.
