NCH Gamelan Orchestra at Hotter than July online
Sunday 19th & Thursday 23rd July, 7pm

For its 7th year in 2020, Hotter than July is moving to an online space, celebrating inclusivity and diversity with music, story-telling, and creativity that is accessible to everyone from home!

From the tranquil setting of The Space Between yoga studio, techniques of binaural recording will bring you into an immersive musical experience from the National Concert Hall Gamelan Orchestra, performing the ancient traditional music of Indonesia.

Gamelan is the ancient traditional percussion orchestra of Indonesia, and in 2014, the National Concert Hall received the wonderful gift of a full Gamelan from the Sultan of Yogyakarta. Since then, under the direction of Dr. Peter Moran, gamelan music has rapidly developed in Dublin, and the National Concert Hall Gamelan Orchestra has performed at festivals around Ireland, the UK and Indonesia, including Kaleidoscope, the Bray Jazz Festival, Another Love Story and the Electric Picnic. In 2018, they represented Ireland at the International Gamelan Festival in Java, where our hugely popular performance was reported in the national media at the time including Tempo magazine and BBC Indonesia.

Binauraul recording techniques will allow you to have a 3D immersive audio experience of gamelan music, and completely lose yourself in ancient sounds.
