Corn Uí Chon Cheanainn, a sean-nós singing competition for third-level students, will take place on Saturday, 11th March 2023 at 2pm in Áras na Gaeilge, University of Galway. This will be the first time the competition will be held since 2019 and is dedicated to the memory of the renowned sean-nós singer, Ciarán Ó Con Cheanainn.

Ciarán Ó Con Cheanainn was born and raised in An Spidéal. He was a scholar and was pursuing his PhD when he tragically passed away in February 2009.

He won many sean-nós singing competitions, including Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, Corn Mháire Mhic Dhonnchadha, and Sean-Nós na bhFear. He was the youngest person to win the prestigious Corn Uí Riada, which he received at Oireachtas na Samhna in 2008.
