Lise de la Salle and the Hermès Quartet
The opening concert of the 23/24 Season at Drogheda Classical Music sets the bar very high when five of today’s most exciting young artists come together for a programme full of romance and beauty. Internationally-renowned pianist Lise de la Salle is joined by the Hermès Quartet to perform a selection from the post-Wagenrian musical response of the French composer Alexis de Castillon in Cinq pièces dans le style ancien followed by his Piano Quintet in E flat major Op.1, which was inspired by his friend and contemporary Camille Saint-Saëns. Complimenting de Castillon's compositions are works for piano by Clara Schumann and the famous Piano Quintet in E flat major Op. 44 by her husband Robert Schumann which is considered one of his finest compositions and a major work of nineteenth century chamber music.
