KaleidosTEN | Kaleidoscope Night

Thursday, 3 October 2019, 8.00pm

On Thursday Oct 3rd 2019, the celebrated Kaleidoscope concert series marks its 10th birthday. 2009 was the year of the classical music mini revolution in Dublin, when violinist Cliodhna Ryan and cellist Kate Ellis first started presenting classical and contemporary music in a dynamic, informal and, in short, totally hip new way. The revolution has been led since 2014 by violist Karen Dervan and cellist Lioba Petrie, who present about 100 Irish and international musicians per year, across 10 events, to an annual audience of about 1000 people. For this special occasion, “KaleidoTEN” will decamp to the heart of the city centre, to The Button Factory, with a set-your-pulse-racing programme of music. The American composer John Adams’ “Shaker Loops” is one of the seminal works of the minimalist movement and will be performed by a string septet led by the 2019/2020 featured artist, violinist Katherine Hunka. The baroque group, The Gregory Walkers, who were formed to mark the 4th birthday of the Kaleidoscope series, will be joined by contemporary traditional Irish dancer, Kelsey Schuhle, while yodeling Austrian fiddler, Claudia Schwab, in the company of a 3- piece band, will make her 2nd appearance at the series. More music to be announced and a few unannounced surprises are promised….
