Following the recent open call for films for the 2025 festival, Light Moves Festival is delighted to announce a call for proposals for its Beyond Screen presentation platform.

Building on the success of the Open Format (now called Beyond Screen) presentations in Light Moves 2023, we are inviting proposals that go beyond the parameters of the festival’s screening programmes. These proposals may include: debates, exploratory workshops, performance-lectures, talks, discussion groups, performances, listening sessions, sitting or walking sessions, broadcasts, parties, podcasts, manifestos, publications, research-oriented projects, and performance. These can be programmed in studio, in public spaces, on stage, online or outdoors.

We invite dance artists, screendance makers, arts practitioners, sound artists, performers, scholars and all those contributing to dance, film and media arts to share proposals with us. We are interested in hearing what you are creating, exploring, investigating and why. What are the questions and conversations that are driving your work and research? What are the key topics or areas of focus that warrant attention in the interconnected fields of dance, screendance, film, or media arts, as they evolve across cultures and geographies at this time?

The Festival’s 8th programme is developing while reflecting on the words Listening, Care, Connection, Beginnings and Endings, and Joy.

We are curious how your work and proposal might consider these words as ideas, and how the festival might situate your proposal as an offering to the festival community to experience, question and play alongside.

The proposals will be considered in relation to the emerging festival programme of events.

Selected proposals will be programmed during the festival and will be offered a fee to present (see Offer below).

Submissions:

Please submit your proposals to us via Google form on the website.

This can be as an individual or a group.

The initial expression of interest should include:

– 300 words max outlining: your idea, timeframe and spatial needs. Reference how you think your proposal would be of interest to our festival and/or a particular community of interest.
– Any other brief info you think is useful for us to know while considering your idea.
– Your biographical information including where are currently based.
– Please propose a duration that is relevant to your idea.
– Where you are currently based / will be travelling from in November

Points to note –

– Technical set up and take down should be reasonably minimal. Works will be selected according to the available infrastructure and timetable of the overall festival programme.

– A limited number of proposals will be selected.
– While the festival team appreciates the time and resources it takes to out together an application, we unfortunately can’t offer feedback on proposals.

Offer –

Participation in the Light Moves 2025 programme.
Production and marketing support.
Fee of €600*
Contribution toward Travel costs (agreed in advance and based on vouched receipts).
If your proposal is successful and you are pursuing further funding from outside bodies/organisations, Light Moves Festival can provide a letter of support for the application.

*If you are in a full-time employment context or in receipt of funding, where you are supported to present work or research at festivals, we invite you to indicate this in your proposal.

Closing Date: Monday 31st March 2025.

Selected proposals will be notified by mid June 2025.

Light Moves 2025 will take place 06 – 09 November 2025.
