The RTÉ Concert Orchestra (RTÉ CO) has established a unique role in Irish musical life over the past 70 years. Eclectic in its range, engaging in its performance style and dynamic in its programming, the orchestra appeals to a wide general audience with a busy schedule that includes live performances annually, regular TV and radio broadcasts, recordings, and educational work.

The RTÉ CO currently has a vacancy for an Orchestral Assistant. Reporting to the Orchestra Manager, RTÉ CO, the successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day co-ordination, movement, and storage of all the RTÉ CO’s instruments and equipment for domestic and international needs.

Key responsibilities of the role include:
– Assisting Senior Orchestral Assistant and Orchestra Manager in planning and setting of rehearsal, recording, performance, and all other spaces used by the Orchestra
– Safely moving and lifting valuable and fragile instruments and equipment, loading, and unloading the orchestra vehicles and loading in and out of venues
– Maintaining good working knowledge of all instruments and equipment, alerting management to repair as arises
– Assisting Senior Orchestral Assistant and Orchestra Manager in scheduling the transportation of instruments, music stands, lights, staging, props, sound monitoring equipment where required and any other equipment deemed necessary in a cost-effective manner
– Undertaking reconnaissance trips
– Organising repairs and overhauls of instruments and equipment

Candidates should have:
– Significant experience in the orchestral, music, theatre, festival and/or entertainment business; a working knowledge of orchestras/orchestral stage management would be desirable
– Education to Leaving Certificate level or equivalent
– The ability to work and contribute as part of a small team and to work on one’s own initiative
– Good level of computer literacy
– Excellent spatial awareness coupled with problem solving skills
– An up to date working knowledge of relevant Health and Safety policy and practice
– Full clean driving licence

Due to the nature of RTÉ CO performances, Orchestral Assistants may be required to work evenings and weekends.

The salary range for the position is €29,907 – €32,742 and the post will be offered on an ongoing employment basis.
