Friday, 21 April 2023, 7.45pm

Ginastera Variaciones Concertantes
Judith Bingham Clarinet Concerto
Lutosławski 5 Dance Preludes for Clarinet and Orchestra
De Falla Ballet Suite: El Amor Brujo

MICHAEL COLLINS CONDUCTOR/CLARINET

Ginastera’s Variaciones concertantes use the individual characteristics of different instruments to thoroughly rework the opening theme, before finishing with an abandoned finale in the style of the Argentinian malambo – whatever your mood as you arrive at this concert, you’ll find a variation to appeal to your state of mind before the orchestra invites you to the gaucho dance.

Michael Collins is not only your conductor for the evening but also soloist, performing Judith Bingham’s Clarinet Concerto (World Première July 2022 at the JAM on the Marsh Festival, with Michael as soloist) and Witold Lutosławski’s kinetic Dance Preludes.

De Falla’s Ballet Suite El Amor Brujo continues the dance party – the story it tells may be ghostly, but the flamenco is fast and fiery!
