Ulster Orchestra: Boundary Breaking Fireworks

Giovanni Sollima L.B.Files, for cello and ensemble
Selaocoe/Keita Double Concerto for Cello and Kora (world premiere, UO co-
commission)

ABEL SELAOCOE CELLO
SECKOU KEITA KORA

We’ll be talking about this concert for years to come! Abel Selaocoe is, quite simply, one of the most phenomenal cellists performing today, working across a huge range of genres and styles.

Amongst other treats, you will hear Giovanni Sollima’s L.B. Files, for cello and ensemble, inspired by the cellist and composer Luigi Boccherini, who Selaocoe describes as ‘a rockstar of his time’. L.B. Files is a furious and mesmerising piece that coaxes incredible harmonics and effects out of the solo cello.

Abel Selaocoe will also be joined by the Senegalese kora player Seckou Keita, another virtuoso in his field. Selaocoe and Keita are regular collaborators and we are thrilled to present the World Premiere of a Double Concerto for Cello and Kora. These two musicians are absolutely boundary-breaking and this will be a spectacular evening of musical fireworks.
