BBC Radio Orkney is one of two community stations in Scotland. It broadcasts around one and a half hours of news and community programmes five days a week. The team also produce news and features for BBC Scotland across Radio, TV and Digital services.

This job will involve learning how to find news stories and bring them to our local and national audiences.  You will learn how to report on a wide range of local news, write material for programmes and how to exercise editorial judgement.  Training will be given into how to broadcast live.  You will get experience in working with freelance contributors to make long form speech and music programmes. Ideally you will already be adept at social media, and learn how to produce content for BBC Scotland’s news website and for the Radio Orkney social media account.

Are you the right candidate?
We are looking for someone who is driven and committed to producing news stories and content which are compelling and relevant to the community in Orkney. You must demonstrate your potential to create original, exciting programme stories. 

You will have confidence and tenacity to pursue information, overcome obstacles and pitch ideas to senior colleagues.  You must be able to work independently as well as part of a team; be self-motivated; adaptable; able to work effectively under pressure; react quickly and meet tight deadlines.
