Music Matters Launches in Ireland

The Music Matters campaign, an international campaign that aims to support an ‘ethical’ economic model for musicians, was launched in Ireland this week. A dedicated Facebook page has been set up for the Irish campaign.

The campaign makes use of a series of animated videos to put across its ideas — so far these videos have featured artists such as Kate Bush, Sigur Rós and Elbow.

A key part of the Music Matters campaign is a trustmark – a circular yellow logo that is intended to function as a fair trade indicator for music purchases. The Music Matters website also includes a music finder that searches various online stores.

‘You can also think of it as a one-stop shopping guide of valuable information for choosing where to get the music you love,’ claims the Music Matters website. ‘It means that those who were involved in making music are getting paid. After all, when creators can earn a return on their work, they have the means to continue making the music that matters to all of us.’
