The Irish Chamber Orchestra’s concert at the University Concert Hall, Limerick, on 20 October was broadcast live in High Definition on Platform Ireland’s website, as well as on four large digital screens to audiences in Leitrim, Kerry, Waterford and Dublin.

The Irish Chamber Orchestra’s concert at the University Concert Hall in Limerick tonight, Thursday, 20 October, is to be broadcast live in High Definition on Platform Ireland’s website, as well as on four large digital screens to audiences in Leitrim, Kerry, Waterford and Dublin. Live interviews will feature in the broadcast in addition to the main programme of music. The broadcast is a response to renewed calls last week at the Global Irish Economic Forum for Irish cultural organisations to reach out to the large disaporic global community.

The concert itself is a preview of the Irish Chamber Orchestra’s upcoming eight-venue American tour. The programme features Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin’s TERM?N, a tenth anniversary tribute to the victims of 9/11 written for string orchestra and uillean pipes. Pádraic Keane, recipient of the 2011 TG4 Young Musician of the Year award, is the soloist.

In addition, Michael McHale performs Sergei Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 4 for the left hand, ahead of Leon Fleisher’s performances of the same piece in the American concerts. Completing the programme are Joseph Haydn’s Symphony No. 96, ‘The Miracle’, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7.

The broadcast is being funded by the Arts Council.

The concert starts at 8.00 pm, and can be viewed online at www.platformireland.ie
