The Contemporary Music Centre To Screen Short Films

Dublin’s Contemporary Music Centre will host the screening of two short films with the involvement of Irish composers Stephen Gardner and Rhona Clarke, on 15 November between 6pm and 7pm.

Dublin’s Contemporary Music Centre will host the screening of two short films with the involvement of Irish composers on 15 November between 6pm and 7pm.

The Sea, a collaboration between composer Stephen Gardner and visual artist Gary Coyne, was commissioned by Wexford County Council under a Per Cent for Art scheme in 2005. The film explores the sea along the 200 kilometres of Wexford’s coastline. It was previously screened at Christ Church Old School in Gorey, County Wexford.

The second film, Relic, is a collaboration between composer Rhona Clarke and visual artist Marie Hanlon. It uses images of the Burren in County Clare to explore the cycles of the tides, and of the seasons. Relic was first screened at the 8th Burren Annual exhibition on 27 August 2011. The exhibition ran from 27 August 2011 to 24 September 2011.

The Contemporary Music Centre’s decision to re-screen the films is part of a series of Platform for Performance events taking place in 2011 to celebrate 25 years of the Centre.

Admission is free to the 15 November event, although booking is recommended as places are limited.

The screening will be followed by a wine reception in the Contemporary Music Centre library.
