Violinist Catherine Leonard and pianist Hugh Tinney are embarking on a mini-tour of Ireland in late-October, with their four concert jaunt taking in Westport, Clonmel, Limerick and Bantry.

The duo will perform the same programme in all four concerts. Two short works by Polish twentieth-century composer Witold Lutoslawski, ‘Recitative e Arioso’ and Subito, in addition to Maurice Ravel’s early Sonate Posthume, will accompany two Beethoven sonatas, the Sonata in D major Op. 12, No. 1, and the Sonata in C minor Op. 30, No. 2. As a duo, Leonard and Tinney are engaged in a project to perform all ten of Beethoven’s sonatas for violin and piano over the course of three years, a cycle now in its second year.

The Westport concert will take place on 23 October. The duo will then go to Clonmel to perform on 28 October, and to Limerick to perform on 30 October. These three concerts are supported by an Arts Council Touring and Dissemination of Works Award, with the Clonmel date being linked to the Junction Festival. The final concert of the series will take place in Bantry House, West Cork, on 6 November, and is part of the West Cork Music series.

Hugh Tinney will appear with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra this Friday, 14 October, in Igor Stravinsky’s ‘Concerto for Piano and Winds’. The programme also includes Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana with Ailish Tynan, and another piece, a ‘Wild Card’ – a new feature of RTÉ NSO programming – yet to be announced. Gerhard Markson conducts.
