Belfast Festival at Queen's

The festival runs from 14–30 October this year featuring a wide array of music taken from across the spectrum of classical, jazz, popular and folk. Taking place at twenty-seven venues across Belfast, festival highlights include Jan Garbarek, Tasmin Little, Joanna McGregor and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa.

The Ulster Bank Belfast Festival at Queen’s runs from 14—30 October this year featuring a wide array of music taken from across the spectrum of classical, jazz, popular and folk, in addition to its extensive visual art, dance and film programmes.

Taking place at twenty-seven venues across Belfast, festival highlights include Jan Garbarek, Tasmin Little, Joanna McGregor and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa. Te Kanawa will close the festival on 30 October with the Ulster Orchestra at the Ulster Hall, with a guest appearance coming from the inaugural winner of the Northern Ireland Opera Festival of Voice vocal competition, Ben McAteer. Joanna McGregor opens the festival with the Ulster Orchestra and their new principal conductor, JoAnn Falletta, on 14 October at the Waterfront Hall. This opening concert, Festival of the Americas features music by Bernstein, Copland, Gershwin, Moncayo and Piazzolla. McGregor will appear in Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, and the Variations on ‘I Got Rhythm’.

The Gabrieli Consort will appear with the Ulster Youth Choir on 23 October, whilst Dervish, Le Mystere Des Voix Bulgares, Jan Garbarek and the Hilliard Ensemble, Shlomo and the Lip Factory, Tinariwen and Elvis Costello will all appear in the festival.
