Annual Student New Music Marathon

Annual Student New Music Marathon

The CMC's Annual Student New Music Marathon will take place at DIT in March, and feature new music composed by students from across Ireland.

The Contemporary Music Centre (CMC) has been presenting its annual ‘student new music marathon’ since 2006. Previous editions have taken place at such venues as the University of Limerick (2010) and the University of Ulster (2011). The 2012 marathon will take place on 9 March from 1030am to 630pm at the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama in Rathmines, Dublin.

The marathon spotlights new music composed and performed by students from universities and colleges across Ireland. Glen Austin, composer and PhD candidate at DIT, and Dr Kerry Houston, Head of Department of Academic Studies at DIT, have programmed a number of concerts to take place throughout the day.  A panel discussion featuring members of the Conservatory teaching faculty and chaired by Jonathan Grimes of the CMC will take place at 2pm, whilst the marathon will conclude with a reception hosted by the CMC for all participants.

Admission to all events is free and open to the public.
