Gráinne Duffy in Irish Showcase at Woodford, Australia

Castleblayney blues singer and guitarist to take part in showcase at Woodford Folk Festival

Blues singer-songwriter and guitarist Gráinne Duffy, from Castleblayney in County Monaghan, will perform at the ‘Irish Showcase’ as part of the Woodford Folk Festival in Australia at the end of this month. Duffy’s appearance at the festival is supported by Culture Ireland.

The 31st Woodford Folk Festival, which takes place from 27 December to 1 January in Australia, is the largest non-profit festival in the country and will feature over 2,000 performers across 438 events in 35 venues. Woodford is in Queensland, north of Brisbane.

This year, Duffy has already performed at the Aberdeen Jazz Festival, Lighthouse Blues Festival in Canada, Accadia Festival in Italy, Festival Festiverbunt in Switzerland, Tanjazz Festival in Morocco, Flirting with the Blues Festival in Holland, and the Belfast Blues Festival.

The Irish Showcase will also feature Fourwinds, Sásta, Áine Tyrell, Jenny Fitzgibbon, Jeremy Dunlop and Luke Plumb. Andy Irvine and the Sharon Shannon Band will also perform at Woodford.

Gráinne Duffy has recently released a live album that follows her 2007 release Out of the Dark. David Scott in The Blues Magazine (UK) recently wrote that Gráinne Duffy Live ‘confirms Duffy’s formidable reputation as a worthy successor to her legendary compatriot [Rory Gallagher]’. He continued: ‘few possess her killer combination of vocal strength, range and intensity, guitar virtuosity and ability to engage audiences’.
