The White Horse, Ballincollig

November 4

Jimmy Crowley brings his extraordinary collection of music to The White Horse in Ballincollig on November 4. He will be joined on the night by special guest Cork singer songwriter Ger Wolfe for what promises to be a special celebration of Cork traditional music.

Jimmy Crowley has been a central figure in the Irish folk scene since the enthusiastic reception of his debut album The Boys of Fairhill in 1977. As a song collector Jimmy Crowley has specialized in collecting and playing traditional songs from County Cork. His recordings popularised local songs such as Johnny Jump Up, Salonika, The Boys of Fairhill and The Armoured Car

With his band Stokers Lodge they set out to present the street ballads of Cork city complimented by the ornate folk songs of the rural hinterland of Cork and Kerry in an exciting orchestration of uilleann pipes, concertina, autoharp, harmonium, mandolin, bouzouki and guitar in their native accent. Jimmy Crowley has earned a reputation within folk circles in Ireland and finds fans in the likes of Liam Clancy, Mary Black, Christy Moore, Micheál Ó Súlleabháin and Ronnie Drew for his contribution to and conservation of Irish Traditional music.

Ger Wolfe has released seven CD’s of original material over the last twenty years the latest entitled I Have Been Loved. Celebratory, reflective, independent in mind and nature, Ger continues to plough his own way through the Irish musical landscape, heedless of fad or fashion. True to the art of the songwriter he tells his own story as he should, in his own unique voice. Ger is a fine poet and composer all rolled into one, a multi-instrumentalist and a lover of the human voice as the best instrument we have to relate to the mystery of life.

Jimmy will be joined by guitarist Hugh Dillon for this intimate performance which will also include new songs.
