CONTEMPOraneous celebrates Brían Bourke

CONTEMPOraneous celebrates Brían Bourke

Thursday, 9 June 2016, 6.00pm

Celebrating Connemara-based artist Brían Bourke in his 80th year, The Galway ConTempo Quartet will perform a special concert on Thursday 9th June at 6pm during an exhibition of his work, Obsessions – Themes and Variations – Preoccupations, in Galway Arts Centre.

Over the past number of months, initiated by The Galway Music Residency, Brían has been sketching ConTempo in rehearsal, capturing their energy and dynamism and being inspired and directed by their performance to create new work. The results of this collaboration can be seen as part of the larger exhibition, which runs at the Galway Arts Centre from June 3rd – July 2nd.

To celebrate this synergy between artist and musicians, ConTempo will perform the music that inspired – movements from quartets by Schubert, Beethoven and Debussy –with Brían’s finished drawings and paintings of the Quartet as a backdrop.

Introduced by Brían Bourke with a response to the creative process from ConTempo, this unique event, presented by The Galway Music Residency, brings together Galway’s ensemble in residence with one of Ireland’s most distinguished visual artists.  Admission is free, all welcome.
