Visiting Music Assistant Professor of Vocal Performance

NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development seeks a candidate that can serve as an Opera Stage Director and Classical Voice Specialist. Applicants with a background in coaching opera repertoire will also be considered, as well as voice teachers. Experience in university administration will be taken into consideration in evaluating potential candidates. The Vocal Performance Program has approximately 207 full-time students who are studying for undergraduate, masters, advanced certificate, and doctoral degrees in musical theatre performance, classical voice performance, and vocal pedagogy. We are looking for candidates who augment and extend the current strengths of the program.

Responsibilities:
Teaching responsibilities may include undergraduate core courses and select classical dramatic works suitable for student singers. Depending on the candidate, courses may include Classical Song Analysis, Classical Song Repertoire, Opera History, and private coaching/private voice. Administrative and service responsibilities include advisement and contributing to the Classical Voice program in areas reflective of the candidate’s strengths, participation in the growth, development, and administration of the program and department, and engagement in faculty meetings, committees, and other services.

Qualifications:
A college degree is required and a strong candidate will have a Masters or doctoral degree. Candidates with a record of stage direction for opera and/or musical theatre at the university and professional level are highly encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate must possess a musical background focused on classical repertoire and knowledge of sung diction for various languages (Italian, French, German, English, and Spanish.)
