Located within the Public Engagement team in the Office of External Affairs and Communications, the role-holder will have responsibility for delivering Cambridge Festival of Ideas. The Festival was established in 2008 with the aim of providing the public with opportunities to explore and discuss topical and research-led issues in the arts, humanities and social sciences.

The role involves programming and coordinating events across academic departments and liaising with staff and student volunteers, with local schools and with statutory, community, corporate and media partners and with members of the public. The role-holder also oversees Cambridge University’s contribution to the Hay Festival.

The role-holder will bring experience of managing major, complex public events from planning to implementation, an understanding of the role of public engagement within research and the ability to grasp complex academic ideas and communicate these for a public audience.

The role-holder will line manage two members of the team as well as managing interns, individuals on work experience and temporary members of staff that work on the Festival. The role-holder will have operational responsibility for managing the Festival budget and for raising funds from external sources. They will support other high-profile public engagement initiatives, building and maintaining important strategic relationships with internal and external partners. This involves reputational management ¿ increasing openness, transforming perceptions and enhancing the reputation of the Public Engagement Team, as well as the University as a whole.
