Award-winning pianist and New Zealand native Lance Coburn will be transporting audiences to awe-inspiring heights with what is set to be a stunning performance as part of the fourth Dublin International Piano Festival & Summer Academy.

Coburn’s ‘From Russia with Liebe’ recital will take place in Dublin’s Hugh Lane Gallery on Wednesday 27th July at 1pm and will include Tchaikovsky’s iconic Theme and Variations in A Minor, as well as the dizzying Presto ‘Perpetuum Mobile’ from Carl Maria Von Weber’s Piano Sonata no. 1 in C Major, op.24.

2016 is Coburn’s fourth year to perform in the Dublin International Piano Festival & Summer Academy, as well as to return as a core member of the summer academy’s teaching faculty.

‘We are thrilled to see the return of the esteemed Lance Coburn to the 2016 iteration of our festival,’ says festival Artistic Director Dr. Archie Chen. ‘Since our inaugural year in 2013, we have been incredibly grateful to have Lance’s participation as both performer and teacher. Not only has he given some memorable performances, he has also contributed immensely to the pedagogical element of our festival.’

In addition to being a full time staff member of the keyboard faculty at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Coburn is an international concert soloist and recitalist, performing with orchestras such as the Sydney and Israel Symphony Orchestras, as well as the RTÉ National Symphony and Hibernian Orchestras in Dublin. He has been the recipient of many prestigious awards, most notably first prize at the Tomassoni International Piano Competition in Cologne in 2001, and also the Hephizibah Menuhin Scholarship.

Dublin International Piano Festival & Summer Academy 2016 runs from 23rd - 31st July inclusive. For its duration, a concert series of piano music spanning classical, avant-garde and jazz will take place in Dublin’s Hugh Lane Gallery and the National Concert Hall. The festival also houses a summer academy for advanced students of piano, wherein they avail of valuable tuition, seminars and masterclasses from some of the world’s most esteemed pianists and experts on piano tuition.
