Masters of Tradition 2018

Masters of Tradition 2018

Wednesday, 22 August 2018, 7.30pm

The 2018 Masters of Tradition is now in its 16th year and runs from Wednesday 22nd to Sunday 26th August.

Artistic Director Martin Hayes, the renowned fiddler from County Clare, will once again open and close this year’s Masters of Tradition. He will be joined by Dennis Cahill, David Power, Steve Cooney, Tríona Marshall, Cormac Begley, Navá, Marla Fibish, Peadar Ó Riada, Karan Casey, David Whyte, Murphy Beds and Stephanie Keane.

Performances take place in Bantry House, one of Ireland’s finest historical mansions, and in one of Bantry’s other special venues, St Brendan’s Church. There will be extra strands of music talks and secret concerts this year featuring Karan Casey, David Whyte, Peadar Ó Riada and a selection of surprise guests.

On the final day, Martin Hayes will be in conversation with the Oscar-winning actor Jeremy Irons in a special event in the Maritime Hotel.
Masters of Tradition provides a platform where subtle and sometimes obscure elements of Irish traditional music can be heard. By seeking the heart of the music we find a universal voice that has widespread appeal reaching across many cultural and musical barriers.
